Area High School Students to Participate in Agriculture and Manufacturing Event at Caterpillar

More than 70 high school students from Central Illinois will participate in the 2nd Annual STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Learning Exchange Event highlighting career opportunities in agriculture and manufacturing on Thursday, December 4th. The event is hosted by CATERPILLAR at their Visitor’s Center in Peoria and organized by the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education. Student teams will participate in a competition, hear from a Caterpillar representative, run an operator computer simulation and tour the Caterpillar Visitor’s Center.

Student teams of four individuals are invited to participate in a challenge combining classroom knowledge, as well as practical and applied content. All teams are welcome and students need not be FFA members/agriculture students to compete. A pre-event marketing campaign for selling CAT equipment will be judged and followed by an on-site sales call to prospective buyers, including computer operator simulation. Using CATERPILLAR equipment and parts, students will also complete a written exam in the mechanical division. The event will feature mechanical parts identification, an applied practicum, and a safety inspection as well. The top teams and individuals in each area will be recognized in an awards ceremony concluding the event.

For more information about this event and to register a team, please e-mail Jennifer Waters at jwaters@agriculturaleducation.org. The deadline to apply is November 5th.
