PEORIA- An economic development consultation firm says the Economic Development Council, the Heartland Partnership and the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission need significant changes.
The report by Vital Economy claims the EDC staff need more experience. It also recommends the EDC no longer operate under the umbrella of the Heartland Partnership.
The report’s biggest concern was a lack of communication between public and private sectors. It claims more collaboration would maximize the area’s resources.
That’s something that each committee believes is true.
“We don’t collaborate very well together. We recognize the need to collaborate. But we don’t do a great job. And sort of the good news out of all that is we can do a lot better if we can collaborate more and more effectively,” said Terry Kohlbuss, executive director of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission.
Renee Charles, EDC spokesperson says it is considering the recommendations, but no decisions have been made.
