Startup Peoria Brings Global Entrepreneurship Week To Greater Peoria

Startup Peoria Brings Global Entrepreneurship Week to Greater Peoria

During the November, Startup Peoria hosted and co-hosted a series of five events for Global Entrepreneurship Week from Nov. 16 – 20. Global Entrepreneurship Week is a global program that inspires people everywhere through activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. With the help of collaborating organizations like Junior Achievement and the Bradley University Turner School for Entrepreneurship, Startup Peoria hosted new and old favorites such as the KeyStart Pitch Competition and the Angel Investor Panel Discussion.

Throughout the week, the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council and Junior Achievement collaborated to bring nine speakers to three local high schools, teaching more than 200 Greater Peoria high school students about the impact of innovation.

On Monday, the Bradley University Turner School for Entrepreneurship hosted the Angel Investor Panel Discussion. Despite the rainy weather, more than 50 people attended the event to learn about the program and engage in a moderated panel discussion. The next day, Illinois Small Business Development Center director Ross Miller facilitated “Starting Your Business in Illinois,” an interactive workshop for entrepreneurs on the verge of legally incorporating their business.

Global Entrepreneurship Week also included Startup Peoria’s regularly scheduled programming, 1 Million Cups (1MC) and the KeyStart Pitch Competition. On Wednesday morning, Levi Dinkla of Digital Doc presented at 1MC about his experiences in startups. Thursday night brought Greater Peoria a new KeyStart winner. Branden Martin brought his business model for Device Tree, a mobile device protection service, and walked away with a $5,000 investment from Attollo. Martin will be signing into an agreement with Attollo in the days or weeks to come.

The week ended with the OneFire GEW Happy Hour at Pere Marquette. Attendees mingled and networked over drinks and appetizers while OneFire featured some of their 3D software applications to the audience.

Startup Peoria is happy to bring together all sorts of like-minded entrepreneurs, collaborators, mentors, and investors through Global Entrepreneurship Week. If you would like to be a part of Startup Peoria’s next big program, Greater Peoria Startup Weekend is set for Feb. 26 – 28, 2016. We hope to see you there!
