During the first week of November, Illinois Central College hosted several activities as part of the U.S. Department of Labor’s inaugural National Apprenticeship Week. Governor Bruce Rauner issued a proclamation in honor of National Apprenticeship Week and in honor of the apprenticeship efforts happening regionally. The GPEDC’s own apprenticeship program, CICESS, had a great time during Monday’s Meet and Greet engaging with participating employers and informing people about the upcoming launch of the program in January, 2016.
CICESS is the first Associate in Applied Science degree in Secure Software Development in the nation and includes college-level programming instruction coupled with on-the-job apprenticeship training. Students are trained in curriculum developed and approved by the Department of Homeland Security and Carnegie Mellon University.
