4G STEM Camp 2015

4G STEM Camp 2015

A critical factor in Greater Peoria’s workforce development is promoting talent cultivation among our region’s future leaders. Several community organizations came together to plan a hands-on experience for almost 60 middle school girls. This second annual 4G STEM Camp taught the community that Girls + Gadgets + Games = Genius!
4G STEM Camp is a weeklong day camp for girls entering the 7th and 8th grade. From the week of July 6 through July 10th, girls met with local scientists, participated in laboratory activities, and learned about the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students were given the opportunity to experience hands-on technology, from programming a sewing machine to designing their own computer games.
Partners from Bradley University Center for STEM Education, Greater Peoria Economic Development Council, Workforce Alliance Central Illinois, The Office of Math, Science, and Engineering Technology Education at UIUC, and University of Illinois Extension came together to plan this hands-on experience. The Greater Peoria EDC is proud to support this effort, as it serves as a transformative experience for all participants, while increasing their interest in careers in the STEM field, as well as the diversity of the local STEM workforce.
