3,500 Greater Peoria eighth graders to attend GP CareerSpark

We would love for you to volunteer at GP CareerSpark!  Find volunteer opportunities HERE.

PEORIA – The Greater Peoria Economic Development Council, in collaboration with Junior Achievement of Central Illinois, has partnered with over 100 businesses to host the first-ever Greater Peoria CareerSpark, an interactive career expo open to all eighth grade students in the five-county region.

3,500 students from 44 schools have registered for the expo being held at the Peoria Civic Center on October 23 and 24. Students can experience around 16 career pathways through hands-on activities with simulators, heavy equipment, ambulances, fire trucks, a mock TV news station, and more.

Students participating in GP CareerSpark will explore their individual skillsets and interests while gaining exposure to the region’s in-demand jobs in advanced manufacturing, engineering, healthcare, arts, technology, agriculture and more.

“Our ultimate goal is two-fold,” said Cundiff.  “We want to help our regional employers by fostering a local future talent pool, and we want to expose middle school students to the wide range of career paths available in our region in a fun way.  Many kids may not know how many career paths are right here in their own backyard and that there are many ways to reach their career goals.”

The expo will be followed up with Junior Achievement programming in the classroom to assist teachers and students in continuing career pathway conversations and exploration.

We look forward to sharing all the stories from the two days!  Stay tuned for more.
